Welcome to the Tunnel Inn! We're back in business!
After several years as a private residence, the Tunnel Inn is once again opening its doors to guests. Our new Station Masters, Bob and Migdalia have just arrived and are looking forward to welcoming new friends and old to this historic location, trackside, at the western portal of the Gallitzin tunnels.
Our building features four rooms, a great room for gathering with other enthusiasts and guests, a porch and balcony. At 2,000 feet above sea level, the sights and sounds of trains battling the Allegany mountain grades are easily enjoyed from the back porch. Our chiminea takes the chill out of the cool mountain air, while our floodlights provide a great night time view of all the train action.
Just 6 miles west of the world famous Horseshoe Curve, our guests are treated to an average of 50 trains per day rolling through Gallitzin.
- A short ride to Altoona and the famous Horseshoe Curve.
- Only feet away from the Western portal of the Gallitzin Tunnels. Only the engineer is closer to the trains.
